The activity developed by Porto Digital is based on three fundamental pillars:

1. Technology

Responsible for the development and maintenance of the communication infrastructure, with more than 4,000 km of optical fiber installed throughout the city, enabling the provision of public services to citizens, including free Wi-Fi access.

2. Innovation and Experimentation

Contributing to the development of public services and policies through a co-creation and active participation model, acting as an accelerator that brings together Innovation Management tools—both for the internal capacity building of municipal teams and for promoting innovation as a driver of the City’s transformation.

3. Partnerships

Ensuring the development of international networks and partnerships, fostering a dynamic ecosystem based on a continuous commitment to innovation.

Porto Innovation Hub

The Porto Innovation Hub aims to demonstrate the potential of innovation, presenting the direct impact on improving the quality of life of citizens, contributing to the creation of qualified jobs, and the potential for projecting the city to new levels of development. The Porto Innovation Hub proposes the creation of new scenarios and innovation opportunities on an urban scale, contributing to the city’s culture of innovation and encouraging citizens to assume the role of innovation engine.

Digital Transition and Connectivity for Disadvantaged Communities

The Municipality of Porto has sought to increasingly establish the city as a Smart City, designing and implementing strategies and projects with a significant impact in various areas. Through the implementation of new methods of management and public administration, as well as promoting the creation and use of participatory tools and the provision of new services to citizens, the Municipality of Porto seeks to ensure the development of the municipal strategy for digital transition and innovation.

The Bombarda Digital project, promoted by the Municipality of Porto, Associação Porto Digital and Associação Quarteirão Criativo, brings together the stakeholders of the Miguel Bombarda Quarter (Porto) around the digital extension of a creative neighborhood.

Baixa Digital

Baixa Digital is a project led by the Municipality of Porto and funded by the Recovery and Resilience Program, which promotes the digitization of a territory covering more than 400 commercial and service establishments, supporting merchants through the provision of co-created digital platforms, better connectivity in the territory, and improvements in public spaces.
